Solvi Stocktake
Count your stock by scan, review the discrepancies against Shopify, and apply the fix — without ever risking your inventory data.
Overview
What Stocktake does
Solvi Stocktake lives inside the Shopify admin and answers one question: does my shelf match my system, and how do I fix it safely? Start a full count or a cycle count filtered by vendor, product type, tag or collection, then count. The first scan is the AHA moment — you scan, the line counts, and nothing is written to Shopify until you have reviewed the variance. Scan input is deliberately fast: a USB or Bluetooth scanner in keyboard mode, your phone camera, or a typed SKU or barcode, with a blind-scan mode that adds one to the count and is instantly ready for the next item.
The whole product is built so a count can never corrupt your inventory. Uncounted items are never zeroed out unless you explicitly opt in — and even then only behind a double confirmation that names how many items the action will touch. Before any apply, a snapshot of on-hand quantities is captured, so a single click rolls the whole count back exactly. Because stores count while they trade, the on-hand quantity is captured at the moment each line is scanned; if Shopify's stock for a line moved between the scan and the apply, that line is flagged for you to accept or reject, never silently overwritten. Each scanned line also keeps the name of the staff member who counted it, so a large count stays accountable.
It is deliberately not an ERP and not a purchase-order tool: it constates, it does not reorder. It reads products, inventory and locations through minimal scopes and its only write is the inventory adjustment you approve — it never touches products, orders or customers, a claim you can verify on the permissions screen at install and one enforced by tests in the build pipeline. Pricing follows the same honesty: a real free plan, then flat monthly plans gated by features — never by the size of your catalog, never per device or per counter, and never requiring POS Pro. Prices are grandfathered for existing subscribers.

Why it exists
Problems we built against
Every problem below is a design constraint Stocktake was built around — not an afterthought.
Some counting apps zero out every uncounted item by default, or hide a destructive “refetch inventory” button that overwrites what you already did — one wrong click and thousands of items are wrong.
Nothing is written until you review the variance, uncounted items are never zeroed without an explicit opt-in plus a double confirmation that names how many items it will touch, and an automatic pre-apply snapshot means any count rolls back in one click.
The built-in counting option requires POS Pro, caps a session at a fixed number of variants, and only counts on-hand — so a large catalog can't be counted in one pass, and stores without POS Pro can't use it at all.
No POS Pro required and no cap on how many variants a session holds: full counts and filtered cycle counts run across catalogs of any size, with every scan persisted server-side so a 20,000-variant count survives a reload without losing a line.
Some apps only scan the product barcode — not the SKU — and force you to confirm on screen after every single beep, which turns a shelf of items into a slow, tap-heavy chore.
Scan by barcode or SKU, with a USB or Bluetooth scanner in keyboard mode or your phone camera, and a blind-scan mode that adds one and is ready for the next item instantly. Prefer to verify each scan? Toggle the confirmation screen back on.
Some counting apps make every helper log in with full Shopify admin credentials before they can join a count — friction that keeps your team from actually helping.
Staff join a counting session from a tokenized link or QR code — their name, the assigned session, and nothing else. Multiple devices count the same session at once, and every line records who scanned it.
Stocky shuts down on August 31, 2026, and the built-in admin has no dedicated stocktake workflow to replace it — so ex-Stocky merchants need somewhere to keep counting.
Solvi Stocktake speaks the Stocky vocabulary — stocktakes, a “missed” view for uncounted items, vendor and type filters — and turns Stocky's irreversible “zero all” into an opt-in, double-confirmed, one-click-reversible action.
Features
Everything the app does
7 capabilities, each mapped to a documented merchant pain. Nothing here is a roadmap item — every claim is tested against the app's acceptance criteria.
01
Safe apply — a count that can't corrupt your stock
A count writes nothing to Shopify until you review the discrepancies. Uncounted items are never zeroed unless you opt in, behind a double confirmation, and every apply can be rolled back.
- Nothing is written until you approve the variance, line by line
- Uncounted items are only zeroed on an explicit opt-in, confirmed twice, naming the item count affected
- An automatic pre-apply snapshot captures on-hand quantities so a count rolls back exactly
- One-click rollback restores the exact quantities the apply changed
02
Scan three ways, with blind mode
Count with a USB or Bluetooth scanner in keyboard mode, your phone's camera, or a typed SKU or barcode — whichever you have on hand — with a blind-scan flow built for speed.
- Any scanner that types like a keyboard (HID) works — no pairing, no driver
- Camera scanning on the phone in your pocket, no extra hardware
- Search and match by SKU and by barcode, not barcode only
- Blind mode: scan → +1 → ready for the next; toggle a confirm-each-scan screen on if you prefer
03
Sessions that hold up at scale
Every scan is persisted on the server the instant it happens, so a large count never loses progress — and cycle counts let you count a slice of the catalog at a time.
- Each scan is written server-side immediately — nothing lives in volatile local memory
- Full counts or cycle counts filtered by vendor, product type, tag, collection or status
- Counts of 20,000+ variants run without a session cap
- Reload, switch device or lose connection mid-count and resume exactly where you were
04
Sales-during-the-count, reconciled
Count while the store is open. The on-hand quantity is captured the moment you scan each line, and any line whose Shopify stock moved before you apply is flagged to accept or reject — never silently overwritten.
- On-hand is captured per line at scan time, not at apply time
- Lines whose stock changed between scan and apply are flagged for review
- Accept or reject each flagged line — the app never guesses over a sale
- Compares on-hand before and after; it never reads an order to do it
05
Team counting by link or QR
Staff join a counting session from a tokenized link or QR code — no admin login, no credentials to share. Several people count the same session at once, and every line keeps who scanned it.
- A guest link or QR carries the counter's name and the assigned session only
- No Shopify admin access for helpers — they see the count, nothing else
- Multi-device counting on the same session simultaneously
- Accountability: each counted line records who scanned it
06
Variance report, history and full CSV exports
A discrepancy report shows counted versus expected, with valuation before and after at cost. Counts are editable, renamable and deletable, history is kept, and everything exports to CSV.
- Counted vs expected per line, with before/after valuation at unit cost
- Export the count — and your full catalog — to CSV
- Edit, rename or delete a past count; the history stays
- Draft and archived products are excluded by default, with a toggle to include them
07
Built to not need support at 10pm on a Sunday
Counts happen after hours, so the product answers its own questions: an in-app FAQ scoped to “during a count,” and a Help page with a 24-hour reply commitment when you do need a human.
- In-app help for the mid-count moments: scanner not recognized, unknown barcode, resuming a session
- A five-step setup guide takes a new store from install to first applied count
- A demo dataset shows the whole flow before your first real count
- Help page with a 24-hour reply SLA; priority same-day support on Growth
How it works
From start to finish in 5 steps
The whole workflow runs inside the Shopify admin — a first result typically takes a few minutes from install to download.
- 01
Install and start a count in minutes
Solvi Stocktake detects your locations and catalog size and drops you on a “start a count” screen right away. No setup marathon before the first count.
- 02
Choose a full count or a filtered cycle count
Count everything, or scope a cycle count to a vendor, product type, tag or collection — count the section you can actually finish tonight. The session opens ready to scan.
- 03
Scan — and watch nothing get written yet
Scan with a keyboard-mode scanner, your camera, or a typed SKU. Each line counts and persists on the server instantly, but your Shopify stock stays untouched. That is the whole point.
- 04
Review every discrepancy
See counted versus expected for each line, with any sales-during-the-count lines flagged to accept or reject. Nothing about your inventory changes until you decide to apply.
- 05
Apply — reversibly — or roll back
Applying sets the on-hand quantities you counted at the location you chose, after an automatic snapshot. Not happy with the result? Roll the whole count back in one click.
Use cases
Who it's for
Built for the Shopify stores that run this workflow every day.
Ex-Stocky retailer
Keep counting after Stocky shuts down
Stocky stops working on August 31, 2026. Move the stocktake habit here: full and cycle counts, a familiar “missed” view for uncounted items, vendor and type filters — and the irreversible “zero all” replaced by an opt-in, reversible apply.
Store without POS Pro
Count without POS Pro or a variant cap
No POS Pro subscription and a catalog too big for a capped session? Count the whole catalog in one pass on the hardware you already have — a phone camera or a keyboard-mode scanner — for a flat monthly price.
Multi-location retail team
The after-hours count with the whole team
Count the shop floor on a Sunday evening with three staff, each on their own phone, joined by a QR code with no admin login. Every line records who scanned it, and the store can stay open while you count.
Ops manager
The weekly cycle count on a section
Instead of one dreaded annual count, scope a cycle count to a vendor or a section each week. Scheduled reminders nudge the sections that have gone longest without a count, and valuation shows the shrinkage in money terms.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions merchants ask before installing — including the ones about what the app deliberately does not do.
Does more than one person count at the same time?
Yes. Several devices count the same session simultaneously — each scan is written to the server the moment it happens, so two people scanning different aisles never overwrite each other. On Starter and above, helpers join from a link or QR code with no admin login, and every line records who scanned it.
Which scanners and devices work?
Any barcode scanner that types like a keyboard (HID / “keyboard mode”) — most USB and Bluetooth scanners do this out of the box, with no pairing or driver. You can also scan with your phone's camera, or type a SKU or barcode by hand. No proprietary hardware is required.
What happens to a sale that occurs while I'm counting?
The on-hand quantity is captured the moment you scan each line, not at the end. If Shopify's stock for that line moves between the scan and the apply — because you sold the item — the line is flagged for you to accept or reject rather than being silently overwritten. It compares on-hand before and after; it never reads an order to do it.
Can I undo a count after applying it?
Yes. Before any apply, the app snapshots the on-hand quantities it is about to change. One click rolls the whole count back to exactly those quantities. Uncounted items are also never zeroed out unless you explicitly opt in, behind a double confirmation that names how many items it will affect.
Do I need Shopify POS Pro?
No. Solvi Stocktake works on any Shopify plan, on the web, with no POS Pro subscription. That is a deliberate difference from the built-in counting option, which requires POS Pro.
Is there a limit on how many variants I can count?
No. A session has no cap on the number of variants — full counts run across catalogs of 20,000 variants and beyond, and cycle counts let you scope to a vendor, type, tag or collection when you'd rather count a section at a time. The free plan limits how many counts you run per month, never the size of your catalog.
What Shopify data does it read?
Only products, inventory and locations. It reads product titles, SKUs, barcodes, vendors, types, tags and unit costs, your on-hand quantities, and your location names. It never reads your orders or any customer data — no names, emails, phone numbers or addresses. Our build pipeline fails if any query touches an order or customer field, and you can verify the scopes on the permissions screen at install.
What will it cost?
There is a real free plan — full and cycle counts, safe apply and rollback, mid-count flags and the variance report, with two counts per month on one location and an unlimited catalog. Starter is $9/month for unlimited counts, guest counters and CSV exports; Growth is $19/month for up to five locations, scheduled cycle counts and valuation. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial, and existing subscribers keep their price if list prices change.
